Interesting article about Indian ‘fairness creams’ on the Eye Blog, a graphic design magazine. Notice mentions of the ‘myth of fairness’ which relates to semiotics theory. Also, a followup story on how the creams are marketed in the west. Also related is this TV advert for Dove cosmetics which shows the process of how to turn a normal looking woman into the sort of model we see everyday in advertisements. Arguably, it helps expose myths around feminine beauty.
